Recommended Installation Sequence for Adobe PhotoDeluxe Business Edition

(Windows 98, 98SE, ME, 2000, XP)  The same installation CD works for all versions of Windows.

Click for a printer friendly version of this page (PDF)

1. Place the CD in the CD-drive and let it boot to the initial menu.
2. Click the button named
Step 1: Install Photo Deluxe Business Edition
3. Then click the button named
Install Photo Deluxe Business Edition.  The system will begin the setup and come to the Welcome screen.
4. Click
Next.  With Typical installation selected, click Next.
5. On the Selection File Types window, click
Next.
6. On the Question window indicating if you have a digital camera, click on
No, even if you have a camera.
7. On the User Information window, click on
An Individual at the top and enter "...." for the First Name and "......." for the Last Name.  Identifying yourself to Adobe only generates email advertisements.  Click Next.
8. On the Setup Window confirming your name
".... .......", click Yes.
9. On the Start Copying Files window, click
Next.

10. Following the installation of Adobe Photo Deluxe, the system will prompt you to install Adobe Type Manager.  On this screen click Cancel.
11. The system now prompts you to do an online registration.  Click
Finish, Cancel, then Yes to confirm the cancelation.  No registration information is sent to Adobe.

12. A movie tutorial begins to play.  You can watch the movie or cancel it with the X in the upper-right corner.
13. The system now suggests that you restart your computer.  Click
Yes to reboot your computer.

14. When your computer reboots and comes back to the desktop, you will see an icon for Adobe Photo Deluxe.  Usually, not all of the icon name uses 4 lines to display, so I rename it with a shorter name.  Right-mouse on the icon and type Adobe Photo Deluxe and press Enter.
15. Right-mouse again on the desktop icon and left-mouse on
Properties.  click on the Shortcut tab at the top.  In the Start in field you will see a reference to ""C:Program Files\PhotoDeluxe BE 1.0"".  Change the double-double quotes to be a single set of double quotes, "C:Program Files\PhotoDeluxe BE 1.0".
16. In the Run: line you will see the value Normal.  Click on the black down arrow at the right of the field and click on
Maximized.  This will cause Adobe Photo Deluxe to open maximized (filling the entire screen area) when it starts.  Click OK at the bottom to close the window and return to the desktop.

17. Start Adobe Photo Deluxe by double-clicking on the desktop icon.
18. When the program has completely loaded, click on
File in the uper left corner, Preferences, and Long Menus.  This will cause the full display of menu items across the top of the display window.
19. If you are running Windows XP, do the following.  Click on
File, Preferences, Scratch Disks.  Click on the black down arrow next to the Secondary Scratch Disk and change it to

either D:\ or C:\ (D is preferred).  Then change the Used by PhotoDeluxe percentage to read 90 percent.  Click OK to close the window.
20. If you have a scanner attached to your computer, click on
File, Open Special, Scan Photo.  The first time you use this option, your scanner name will appear in a window.  Click on the scanner name and click OK.  If you ever need to change to a different scanner (because more than one scanner appeared in the initial scanner selection screen, and the one you selected isn't working), click on Get & Fix Photo in the upper-left of the screen, Get Photo, Scanners, 1 Scanner, Choose Scanner, then click on a new scanner of your choice and click OK.

21. Adobe Photo Deluxe is now ready to activate your scanner, edit pictures, and store them in the format of your choice.  Refer to the extensive Help section within Adobe Photo Deluxe, or review the video training CD Working With Digital Photos A to Z available from Computer Genealogy Specialists at www.cgslink.com.

Good luck.
